Chapter 39...Captain Cowboy, or Thar's a new hombre in these parts...

...The loyal readers among you will recall that as your Captain and crew move into a new territory, we generally will show you the "Welcome to {insert state name here...}" sign, for example...

...Monument Valley does not have such a sign, per se, so herewith your dutiful Captain presents the quintessential sign of this region...

...you guessed it, we've journeyed back in time to the place where John Wayne starred in movies like Stage Coach, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Searchers, etc. ...

Factoid:  This area of Utah has great booty!!!  The native Navajo, for some reason, spell it BUTTE...go figure...

...That's the Duke, third from the left...

...And certainly we all remember this scene...

...oops, forgot to cue the talent...

...There, now you remember...Forrest Gump was here...(somewhat later than John Wayne)

...Word 'round the evening camp fires is that there is a new hombre roamin' these parts...

...?? Can it be...oh no...it's the Cowboy Captain...

...Courageous defender of the weak, the lame and of course of beautiful ladies on the Great Plains or on the seven seas...(or is it eight seas?  It's been a while and I forget...)

...And what western hero is complete without a beautiful love interest...

....Ah, there she is...Miss Leslie Belle, now alighting from the stage which just arrived from back east...

...Miss Leslie Belle wearing her new western bonnet...it's made of leather...

...And what western hero can function effectively without his trusty steed???

...Your Venerable Cowboy Captain calls him JEEP...

...Ol' JEEP took our heroes to see the famous rock formation known as Mexican Hat..

...Leslie Belle and Ol'Jeep with Mexican Hat Rock in the background...(if you're havin' trouble seein' it, imagine a sombrero sitting upside down on a pile of rocks...squint, if necessary...)

...They actually named the nearest town Mexican Hat!!!  (population...31).  This thriving, albeit smallish town even has a Hard Rock Cafe...well not exactly, BUT, they DO have a HAT ROCK CAFE!!!

...and once again, some of you thought your Trusty Captain was making this up...Jeez, some people...

...Anyway, as a service to those of you who, based upon this spellbinding travel chronicle, plan to travel here, your Helpful Captain was able to obtain the latest review of the Hat Rock Cafe from the world famous Michelin Guide to Great Cuisine.  Herewith, we reprint the enthusiastic review in its entirety:

"The Hat Rock Cafe, located in Mexican Hat, Utah serves what appears to be food...we think."

...Your heroes, preferring to save their appetites for a hearty dinner at the Goulding's Chuckwagon, decided to forego the culinary adventure at the Hat Rock Cafe,  (Before you accuse us of rank cowardice, ask yourself...would YOU eat there???  Yeah, I didn't think so...)

...The food at the Goulding's Ranch was, although not reviewed in the Michelin Guide, quite good.

...the view from our dinner table...You can almost see John Wayne...er..uh...The Cowboy Captain riding in to rescue the settlers besieged by indigenous savages...Injuns, is what we call 'em 'round here.

...Well Pardner, you have probably gotten a fairly good idea of what it is like in these parts, so we'd best be moseyin' on.  Before we go, however, here is a map to show you the journey so far...

...exactly 59,978 furlongs, or for those of you who don't have a horse, about 7,500 miles...

...Where are we aimin' to go next, you are probably asking...(Get it...AIMING...Ha, I crack me up...)

...Anyway, tune in to Chapter 40 (that'll be the next one) in the next few days and find out with the rest of the loyal readers...
