Chapter 12. January-February, 2014

The observant reader will note that the regularity of your humble Captain's blog posts is becoming less dependable.  Be assured that the Captain has not so much lost interest in keeping the reader informed, as he has more or less run aground ideawise.  Now that the Captain's clan has settled in at Pelican Lake, there is little to report.

I will however give a few highlights.

In mid-January our great friends and neighbors from Ocean City, MD. came to Naples to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  We joined them one evening for a celebratory dinner.
The beautiful Lynn
...and her lucky husband Dave...he likes beer

Moving on, here are a few shots of our site here at Pelican Lake...
Rocky, Opie and Murphy our security system

All Pelican Lake sites are spacious...
Lots of greenery as well...

Later in January, we saw the annual Golf Cart Parade.  The Captain did not participate except as a spectator since he was totally unprepared to compete with the colorful carts as shown below.

This is but one of maybe 50 elaborately festooned carts.  One even had a live ape in a bamboo cage, although I personally think the ape might have been Jersey Joe...

Jersey Joe??

And of course, what parade is complete without a corps of marching beauties?  Herewith I present the Pelicanettes...
...and no, Dear Reader, I cannot obtain for you a pair of golden moon boots like these...

There is no way that your reporter can determine with certainty the level of sobriety among the participants at this well attended parade, but one can suspect that alcohol blood levels were elevated.  Jes sayin'.

Throughout January Leslie and I attended Sunday services at Stan's Idle Hour. On Sunday the music starts around 1 PM, AFTER all present stand at attention for what must be the longest rendition of the STAR SPANGLED BANNER ever performed.  Steve Gober, the owner insures that our flag waves proudly oer the assembled crowd.

Yep, Steve even used a crane to fly old glory one day.

The Captain's growing renown has forced the him to don the disguise of a cowboy as seen here during Sunday services at Stan's...
The Ca, I mean the Cowboy and the Commodorable.

On this same Sunday we were joined by great friends from Baltimore..
The hatless blonde is our Danish Baltimore friend and near family member Nina.  The blonde with a hat is Nancy (who incidentally also has a wee Westie Terrier, Wendy III, not shown because she is in Baltimore with her Dad.). The cowgirl is of course darling Leslie and the other brunette is uh, well I'm not really sure.  The fellow from in red is an Ohio State fan.

Another view of a typical Sunday meeting at Stan's.  The music is  always really good country, and no, that is NOT an oxymoron

A Stan's Idle Hour factoid:  when the Captain first visited there, the facility did not have in its inventory ANY Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila.  This travesty has since and forevermore been corrected.

Another SIH factoid...this is a favorite spot for House Speaker John Boehner and his wife Debbie, who the Captain has met (Debbie, not John).  Speaker Boehner even presented the establishment with an American flag which actually flew over the U.S. Capitol building.

Still another SIH factoid...Wille Nelson his own self visited here...didn't sing tho...

The reader now probably wonders if the Captain does anything besides going to SIH. Well I do (he says with high indignation), but I just can't remember right now...

Oh well, let's move on to March
